Bhavishya Purana

The Purana of Future Prophecies and Sun Worship.

Summary

The Bhavishya Purana is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas, narrated by Lord Brahma to Sage Manu. As the name 'Bhavishya' implies, it is renowned for its prophecies regarding future events. It is unique among the Puranas for its detailed predictions concerning dynasties, foreign rulers, and historical shifts in the Kali Yuga.

Apart from prophecies, a significant portion of the text (the Brahma Parva) is dedicated to the worship of the Sun God (Surya), describing his origin, glory, and rituals. It narrates the story of Samba, Lord Krishna's son, who established Sun worship in India to cure his leprosy. The text also covers duties of different castes, snake worship, and the construction of temples.
