Summary

The Brahmanda Purana is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas, named after the cosmic egg (Brahmanda) from which the universe emerged. It is narrated by Lord Brahma and later by Sage Vayu. It is a comprehensive text covering the creation of the universe, geography, astronomy, and the genealogy of ancient dynasties.

This Purana is particularly revered for containing the Lalita Sahasranama (The Thousand Names of Goddess Lalita Tripurasundari), a central text in Shaktism. It also includes the Adhyatma Ramayana, which retells the story of Rama with a focus on Vedantic philosophy and devotion. The text provides detailed descriptions of the seven continents (Dvipas) and the fourteen worlds.
