Summary
The Linga Purana is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas and is a Rajasic Purana dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is narrated by Suta Romaharshana to the sages in the Naimisha forest. The text is divided into two parts: the Purva Bhaga (108 chapters) and the Uttara Bhaga (55 chapters).
As the name suggests, it focuses on the worship of the Shiva Linga as the symbol of the formless and infinite nature of God. It describes the origin of the Linga (Lingodbhava) as a pillar of fire with no beginning or end, challenging the ego of Brahma and Vishnu. The Purana covers topics like cosmology, the importance of Yoga, the significance of the Aghora mantra, and the various forms of Shiva.

Translation: The excellent Linga is called Pradhana and Prakriti. It is devoid of smell, color, taste, sound, and touch (it is the unmanifest source).
