Narada Purana

The text containing the essence of all Puranas and Vedangas.

Summary

The Narada Purana (or Naradiya Purana) is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas, presented as a dialogue between the celestial sage Narada and Sanatkumara. It is unique because it serves as an index or summary of the other seventeen Mahapuranas, making it a valuable text for understanding the scope of Puranic literature.

Divided into two parts (Purva and Uttara Bhaga), it covers a wide range of topics including the six Vedangas (auxiliary disciplines of the Vedas like grammar, astrology, and rituals), the importance of Bhakti (devotion) to Lord Vishnu, and detailed descriptions of various Vratas (vows) and Tirthas (pilgrimages). It emphasizes the chanting of the divine name and the observance of Ekadashi.
